So a year on after the initial announcement, 0800 and 0808 number are free to call from a mobile phone just as they have always been free on a landline telephone.
Networks must also now inform their users the price of numbers starting in 118, 084, 087 and 09 costs to call. The change came in because of a ruling by telecoms regulator Ofcom.
A source at Ofcom stated to Sky News that “the change as the biggest overhaul of telephone service charges for more than ten years.”
They also made comment that the new guidelines should make it easier for callers to see and understand what they’re paying and where the money they spend is going.
