What is an upgrade?

What is an upgrade?

Mobile phones are forever changing, as the need to keep up with consumer demands and expectations grows. Consumers are expecting new features, updated cameras and more advanced specifications from the likes of Samsung, Apple and HTC, so it's imperative that these brands keep up with this demand by releasing more advanced models.

What is an upgrade?

To keep up with the changes and new technologies within the mobile phone industry, consumers are offered upgrades to their current contract.

An upgrade would usually involve upgrading to a better-suited contract, which could include a higher data plan or more texts, or an upgrade to a newer handset. On some occasions, both options could be applicable for some contract holders, depending on the network.

When can I upgrade?

Most mobile phone contracts are for a limited period. This could be for one year, 18 months or two years, depending on what contract you agree on.

When upgrading, it is not always necessary to wait until the end of your contract to upgrade your phone or contract plan. Depending on what network you're on, you could upgrade up to 30 days early. You can upgrade 45 days early with EE, while O2 and Vodafone allow you to upgrade 30 days early. It is still possible to upgrade before this time, however this could lead to an early upgrade fee being applied to the remainder of your contract.

Which handsets are available with an upgrade?

With most networks, you're able to upgrade to any handset, regardless of whether your new handset is more advanced than your current model.

Most networks are flexible in relation to which handset you can upgrade to. It can often be the case that if you choose a more advanced phone, your monthly contract fee could increase, or decrease if you choose a lesser advanced phone. This all depends on the network you're on and the minutes, data or text allowances that you receive every month.

What upgrade deals can I get?

Here at Mobile Phones Direct, we offer some great upgrade benefits through EE. By upgrading with EE, customers can receive some benefits such as free Apple Music for six months, BT Sport free for three months and a better 4G connection compared to other networks.

With the EE upgrades that we offer, you're able to upgrade to a variety of phone models for all budgets. For £19.99 a month, you're able to upgrade to as Blackberry Passport with 5GB of data and unlimited texts and minutes.

Another great offer is the new Samsung Galaxy S8 64GB, which for £39.99 a month, you're able to have 5GB of data, unlimited texts and minutes, as well as £72 cashback.
